I trained at City of Westminster College part time for three years gaining BTEC at ordinary and higher levels in general photography.
Whilst at college I managed to get a job printing in The Independent darkrooms and took advantage of all the facilities and advice from the photographers to get a portfolio together. The work at the Independent was only casual - initially a couple of hours a day, so I kept up my day job which was a night job (Croupier). Then the causal job became almost full time - 8 hours a day, five days a week - at the same time I was graduating from college so my part time course was also a bit full on, so to save time travelling I used to sleep on my boyfriend's office floor.
Nowadays photography is my full time job and study, and I also have a son, so I'm still pushed for time but at least I don't have to sleep on any office floors any more.
